Pear and Berry Almond Crisp
This recipe was submitted by Lana Hunter from Pueblo, CO on 2/24/2010. Thank you, Lana!
Lana Hunter had this fun fact about the Pear and Berry Almond Crisp recipe to share:
The finished crisp is great when served with a drizzle of heavy cream..
Ingredients
2 ½ pounds ripe pears, peeled and sliced; 2 pints berries: blueberries, blackberries or strawberries
¾ cup of sugar
¼ cup plus ½ cup maple syrup, divided (Note: Use Grade-B maple syrup if possible for richer flavor.)
¾ cup almond meal or finely ground almonds
¾ teaspoon almond extract, or 1 tablespoon almond liqueur like Frangelico
1 cup oats
¾ cup flour
Zest of 1 orange
¼ teaspoon nutmeg; ½ teaspoon cinnamon; ¾ teaspoon salt
2 sticks softened butter
Cooking Instructions
1.Combine the pears and berries in a 13×9 greased baking pan and toss with ½ cup maple syrup, the almond extract and orange zest. 2.Separately, combine the flour, oats, sugar, almond meal, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Stir in the softened butter, then the remaining maple syrup, until you have a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle the crumble over the fruit. 3.Place the oven at 375 degrees. Cook until the crumble topping is a rich golden color and the fruit is soft, 45-50 minutes.
